Home network--Linux, 2 Win 98 PCs, TCP/IP

Help!  I'm a novice at Linux (some experience) and I want to set up a basic
home network.  I've already got most of it up and running--I can ping every
computer via its IP address, but that's not quite what I want.  I'd like to
assign an actual name to each computer; e.g., europa.jupiter.sol, or
whatever.  I can do this for the Linux machine, but I can't seem to do it
for the Win98 boxes.  I've gone in and hacked the Hosts.sam files on both
computers, but that didn't help.  Any suggestions?  Email is preferred

Home network--Linux, 2 Win 98 PCs, TCP/IP

Hey everybody:

Thanks for everyone's help.  The hosts.sam / hosts filename thing was my
problem.  However, I'm now wondering if it was really necessary to do all of
this.  All I really needed was to be able to talk to one computer from
another, and I could have done that very simply with Network Neighborhood.
I guess I just like a challenge!

Oh--I did download the DNS HOW-TO, but haven't read through all of it yet.
It seems rather tricky.  You might see me post again!

1. Ethernet, SCO 5.05 enterpirse, TCP/IP and Win 98

I  have the Unix box with an IP address that I can ping only from the Unix
box itself.  My win98 pc cant ping the unix box nor can the unix box ping
the win-98 machine.

Both Cards are activated and working fine lights on the hub etc.

I need some "basic" help with TCP/IP with Unix and Win-98 to have the two
machines see each other.

I have read and read and read but must be missing one component of this.

Any help appreceiatd
