Post by Mohamad Termiz » Fri, 02 Jul 1999 04:00:00

HI..

I am newbie in Linux.

Recently, I managed to get my modem connected to my ISP and I could see
or even pinged my remote IP address. The connection was stable and
running at 50666 bps.I launched the Netscape 4.51 (bundled with Caldera
v2.2) but were prompted with message '...name server could not be
found..'

My question is why could be the possible solution to this?

TIA

Could not http or ftp via Netscape?

I believe you are there, you just haven't set the Netscape Preferences
(Advanced Proxy setup, etc).

Try ignoring the message and going to a known address like
'www.yahoo.com'.  It may work.  If not,
get the correct 'name server' info from your ISP and modify your Netscape
Preferences.

At any rate, if you know the actual IP address of the site you want, you
should be able to type:
http://<IP address> and get there.

Your /etc/resolv.conf should contains:

domain jaring.my
nameserver 192.228.128.20
nameserver 192.228.128.18

ps: Please change the nameservers to your favourate DNS servers.

1. Help On FTP VIA HTTP -- Browser does not list ftp directory?

Hi

Thanks for helping, First fo all.

My problem is not the ftp server. It works fine under the command
line.

However, when I try to access the ftp directory via a browser, nothing
from the ftp directory was listed from on the browser. All I see is
"Current Directory is /".

I read that when a requested directory does not have a index.html, the
httpd will list all the content of the directory. But nothing
happens....

I tried editing the httpd.conf and added a <Directory> section for
/home/ftp but it does not fix the problem. So I tried adding .htaccess
file under /home/ftp but it also does not work. I concluded that it is
not the problem of httpd. So where is the problem?

  Thanks again for the help.
