mounting partitions over network

Post by Jack Saunder » Mon, 07 Jan 2002 20:04:08

hi,
is it possible for me to have a big drive on a machine acting as a server
with the following partions:
/
/home
/usr
and another machine that only has / but is configured to use the 1st machine
so that:
/ on #2
/home on #1
/usr on #1
if so how can I do this?
thanks,

Ultimately, that's probably what you'd want to do.  But you can also
use boot floppies or a very small amount of hard disk space to emulate
a bootable NIC.

Look at the home pages for Etherboot and Netboot.  One or both will
have links to bootable floppy images you can try out.

1. Newbie: mounting other system partitions, network

Help, please.

I cannot seem to find the correct place in the documentation (RedHat7.3) so that my
hard drive with Linux can see my hard drive with the other operating systems -- same
computer.  I want to mount hda8 (HPFS) and hda9 (FAT16)  and cannot quite understand
what I am supposed to do.  Neither is mentioned in fstab buit they do show up in the
hardware browser.  Do I need to install something to be able to read hpfs drives?

It is also on a cable modem on a router and should be able to see the other computers
on that router but I don't know how to set that up.  When booted to OS/2 the
computers communicate easily on a Peer network
