Ethernet 3Com 3C575-TX PCMCIA card installation

Ethernet 3Com 3C575-TX PCMCIA card installation

Post by vjao.. » Sat, 26 Sep 1998 04:00:00

I am a (very) newbie to Linux, and I installed Redhat 5.0 on a partition
of my Compaq Armada 1590DT. It works pretty well but...
I'd like to connect my computer to an Ethernet network, using an 3C575-TX
(Fast Etherlink XL) PCMCIA card.
Reading a few How-to's an web pages, I understood (?) that there are two
problems:
1- the PCMCIA controller (Texas Instruments PCI-1131 in this case);
2- the Ethernet card itself.
Am I right? If yes I would appreciate any help on these questions:
1- Is my controller recognized by Linux ? (and How To ???)
2- Is there a driver for the NIC ? (and where can I get it)
Thanx in advance.

The 3c575 is a CardBus card, not a PCMCIA card.  The generic name is "PC
Card".  Yes, those were a horrible names to select.  The PCMCIA standards
people specialize in bad decisions.

That works.

The 3c575 works fine.  The newer 3ccfe575 is supported only experimentally,
and may take another month or two to move beyond alpha testing.

Check

There are other CardBus drivers as well: EPIC/C (Ositech) and Tulip
(LinkSys, perhaps Intel).

1. 3com PCMCIA Card (3com Fast Etherlink XL 3C575-TX)

Hello,

        I'm a newbie with FreeBSD.

I try to use an ethernet PCMCIA card (3com Fast Etherlink XL 3C575-TX).

I succeeded in compiling the kernel for use of PCMCIA (another modem
card works fine).
But the 3Com card doesn't seem to work.

Is my /etc/pccard.conf obsolete? Is ther anything else to do?

Thanks...
