Hello there,
I've got a couple of Linux machines on my network, running RedHat 5.1.
One box is a workstation, with a few programs held locally, but with my
most-used stuff (JDK, Java Workshop, HTML editors, etc.) runing from the
server via NFS & symlinks. The server has tons of stuff on it which I've
built from source, including a souped-up Apache-1.3.3 web server with PHP3
and SSL, the full KDE, and similar
set-three-days-aside-if-you-want-to-reinstall setup (the server also has
*everything* from the RedHat 5.1 CD on there...).
My question is: is it worth it for me to upgrade to 5.2? How much of the
distribution has changed? Is it essentially along the lines of the latest
kernel (2.0.36, isn't it?), and maybe the latest Apache (which I already
have), or is there a lot of new stuff (or perhaps newer, better versions of
everything I've got now)? I personally like the sound of the 'server' and
'workstation' setup options, it could save me about an hour going through
all the descriptions of all the packages on both machines, working out what
I needed to have and where.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
Yours,
