ping, 100% loss

ping, 100% loss

Post by Michael Gen » Thu, 16 Mar 2000 04:00:00

After installation of SuSE 6.0, 2.0.36 Linux I did following:

Set up NO dummy device. (With dummy device happens the same.
There is only one more message:
pppd: not replacing existing default route to dummy [])

Adapted /etc/ppp files for my needs.

Checked ppp kernel support.

Installed ppp and toppp packages.

Set /etc/rc.config, IP_DYNIP to yes.

Adjusted DNS with ISP IPs and domain names.

Start /etc/ppp/ppp-up, get a connect to
ISP t-online and a local IP addr plus a remote IP addr.

A ping to local IP addr looks fine but
ping to remote IP addr results 100% package loss.

All following messages are with NO dummy device installed!!

route -n shows:
Kernel IP routing table
Destination     Gateway         Genmask         Flags Metric Ref Use
Iface UH    0      0
1  ppp0       U     0      0
4  lo         UG    0      0
0  ppp0

ifconfig shows:
lo   Link encap:Local Loopback
     inet addr:  Bcast:  Mask:
     RX packets:252 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
     TX packets:252 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0

ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
     inet addr:  P-t-P:
     RX packets:13 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
     TX packets:14 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0

After hung up route -n shows only iface lo and ifconfig lo.

A tcpdump shows:

tcpdump -n -i ppp0 (started directly while setting up ISP line)
tcpdump: listening on ppp0

... and nothing more. After <ctrl> c only:

0 packets received by filter
0 packets dropped by kernel

In the meantime I read "millions" of HOWTOs and FAQs but
I found no answer!

I don' t know what to do anymore! Can anybody help?

Thank you in advance!
