403 Error with Apache

403 Error with Apache

Post by Lima Lim » Fri, 28 Apr 2000 04:00:00

Hey,

     I just installed RH 6.2 (I was using RH 5.0) and I'm facing a Apache's
problem.. Everytime I try to connect to my local web's servers, I get a 403's
error in all directories. I checked the permissions and they're right. What
am I missing to check?

Thanks in advance,

403 Error with Apache

Hi

look in the log file for apache it could be a rule in the config file
that is stopping you access directories also the parent diretorries must
have the correct permissions as well

403 Error with Apache

Hey,

Remember that the parent directories only have to have the 'x' bit set to
get to the children.  If you don't want people to have access to the
parents, and for some reason you can't change DocumentRoot (isn't that the
directive?), do it that way.

1. 403 Error with Apache ver 1.3.24 RH7.3

I have installed linux RH7.3 with apache1.3.24... On the default (no
tweeking) I get a Error 403.  In httpd.conf I have DocumentRoot
"/usr/local/apache/htdocs" the permisions on that directory is drwxr-xr-x
thus I assume all can read that directory.  I have created a index.html with
permissions -rwxrwxrwx, and it still comes up with an error 403.

From the linux box I open mozilla and try and surf to the site and it says
Forbidden.

I have no firewall installed on the server.

I have read the postings of Ming He (et al) he is using RH6.2 and
apache1.3.22 would the problems be the same?

Kind Regards
Christiaan Ehlers
