hi,

my newly installed squid (2.4.STABLE1, running on a suse-dist w/ kernel
2.4.2 on a powerpc)
dies while starting with these messages:

2001/07/18 14:37:39| Adding nameserver <x> from /etc/resolv.conf
FATAL: Received Segment Violation...dying.
2001/07/18 14:37:39| Not currently OK to rewrite swap log.
2001/07/18 14:37:39| storeDirWriteCleanLogs: Operation aborted.

squid -z for adding swap-directories worked without complaning,
directory permissions seem to be correct...

any ideas out there? thank you!

This is mostly because of misconfiguration during compilation, or
hardware problems. (One of the squid child processes fails with a SEGV.)
Check the squid faq at http://squid.nlanr.org

Is the /etc/resolv.conf file in a valid format that squid is going to
understand ?

See ya

1. another squid newbie Q...

ok , so I have squid up and running, but I can't see any difference, nor
can I turn IPmasqing off without squid failing. I have also done
sometests:
changed the ip and port # to a fictitious non existant number and I can
still access the internet. the default gateway makes sure that we get to
the internet even if the proxy number is wrong.....so I have also looked
at the access.log, store.log, and cache.log and there is nothing of
significant value in there......now what? thanks....
