Connection closed by foreign host

Hi,

I am using Windows 2000 on a Dell notebook with the Xircom CBEM-56 G cardbus-nic

in a network with Windows NT and Linux machines.

Sometimes I get the message 'connection closed by foreign host' after an
application is some time idle and not running in foreground (this happens very
often, when I am using an administration program like ID-Admin or Quickdesk
under Windows against the interbase database server running under Linux).

Under Windows NT SP 6.a this problem does not exist.

Any ideas?

I'm trying to set up hotwayd, a pop3-httpmail gateway. Details follow --
any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The hotwayd server will run ok from the commandline -- i can access hotmail
account, list and retr from hotwayd directly on the commandline. My
machine appears to be blocking the connection. When I do a telnet, I get
the following response:

prompt:/home/hannah# telnet localhost 11110
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
Connection closed by foreign host.

I've spent a bit of time looking at the configuration and it seems to be ok,
details are below.

excerpt from /etc/services:

pop3 110/udp
hotwayd 11110/tcp
sunrpc 111/tcp
sunrpc 111/udp

the associated inetd.conf line is:

hotwayd stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd hotwayd

in /etc/hosts.allow:

ALL : 127.0.0.1

/etc/hosts.deny conatins nothing.
