Samba user

Samba user

Post by John E. Hagensieke » Tue, 28 Dec 1999 04:00:00

I am unable to browse samba shares as a user.  Only as root.  I added a user by
typing smbadduser john:john and it prompted me for a password.  The smbadduser
says it will update the smbpasswd file (check) and /etc/smbusers---there
doesn't appear to be any addition to this file /etc/smbusers

Actually when I log on as user john and fire up gnomba the network is visible,
when I expand the network all the shares are there but when I attempt to mount
a share linux locks up hard prompting a cntrl - alt F1 then a cntrl-alt - del
to reboot.

I have linux redhat 6.0 with samba 2.0.6 and gnomba

As I said before everything is perfect as root ----just trouble as a user.
I've searched deja and read the mans and haven't seep anybody else with this
problem.

Thanks....John

Type (at a console):

smbpasswd -a -e %Username% (The username that you want).
The '-a' adds the user and the '-e' enables the user.  Type the password
which you want, then it's done!

1. Question:How to monitor samba user activities?

Any method can implement that task?
I am wondering if Linux server could monitor the samba client for their
activities like IP address/ on line duration/ logon/logout

If someone there could be kind to show me a script for that purpose, it
would be great!
