NETBIOS Networking in Linux-Is it possible ???

Post by Любовь Ермаков » Sat, 29 Dec 2001 15:57:31

Hi, everybody !!!
Help me, who can ...

I use Corel Linux  and I have not any problems with Windows Networking only with
IP addresses on each computer under Windows, but our local network has a few
computers without IP address and I still can not see them under Linux.
Generally, Is it possible to see them under Linux , not only Corel Linux ??? Or
Linux can see the computers only with IP addresses ???

Thanks

To the best of my knowledge, Samba only supports NetBIOS over TCP/IP
(as opposed to NetBEUI, I believe).

yes you must use SAMBA.

That's how it works.

No surprise, as SAMBA only supports NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

No.

Yes. There's no NetBEUI implementation for Linux, and there
hardly ever will, as even MS itself has dropped NetBEUI support for
Windows (XP) now.
