v1.3 kernel, v1.5 httpd (NCSA) incompatibilities?

Post by Rob Payn » Wed, 28 Feb 1996 04:00:00

Since originally posting this message (possibly to the wrong group), I
have upgraded to 1.3.68, one kernel at a time, and each has had the same
problem.  Is no one else experiencing this problem?  If that is the case
I must really begin to wonder if it doesn't have something to do with
the fact that I am running a new kernel and (really pretty) old

Linux 1.3.57 (upgrade from 1.2.11), old (a.out) libraries, and NCSA 1.5
(beta 7 and release version) do not seem to get along.

I have been holding off, figuring yeah, 1.3.x is development kernels,
and there is just some bug that has to be worked out, etc. but I really
want to get this web server running on this box, and I need it to be
NCSA because of some of the support that I am attempting to work with
relies on new features which are only support with this server.

Does anyone have this running?  I imagine it to be a problem with the
new proc fs, but I don't know for sure.  Is there a patch for this that
I haven't been made aware of?

The server starts up, just fine, but when connections come in, the
connection immediately drops and no data is transmitted.  I have kernel
debugging messages turned on, and this is what I see in my syslog stream
when the connection to the web server happens:

This is the only service that has this problem, of the ones that I am
running.  Sendmail has no problem, smap has no problems, telnet, ftp
services and gateways (TIS Firewall toolkit) have no problems what so

Any help that you can offer, I would appreciate.  I am willing to start
hacking around with the httpd code, I just wanted to make sure that no
one else had a patch for this yet, especially since there are likely
many people out there more familiar with both the new proc setup and the
httpd code than I.

Thank you all, for your time.
