How to check user password in ppp connections?

Post by Rafa Cou » Tue, 23 Sep 1997 04:00:00

        Hi everybody! :-)

Ok, I had built Linux system with ppp incoming calls via
modem. The users coming in and it goes right, but they do use any user
name and any password...

The problem is when it runs pppd with 'auth' 'login' and
'+pap' options, the users can not log in into the Linux host (they

/etc/passwd). It seems I am doing anything wrong, but where?

        Thanks in advance :-)

        Saludos, Rafa Couto

Move /etc/ppp/pap-secrets to someother name. Pppd does use that file for
checking authorization, if it exists, in spite of 'login' option.

1. Checking a users password

I wish to add a lock style password check to an application of mine.

How can I submit a string so it is checked against the current users password?

Is this possible without writing a C or Perl program? And if I do need
to write a C/Perl program, what is the function.

Any help appreciated.

Craig.
