Control-C and Telnet -- locking up my session

Post by Chri » Fri, 13 Feb 1998 04:00:00

I have slackware 3.2 installed with kernel 2.0.30
I connect via Slirp at school - I start it up, then I run pppd on the
local box.  However, when I telnet in, anytime I hit Control-C
(to interrupt a process), my telnet session freezes up, and I must
close it and reconnect.

I am using an 8-bit clean line.
I also tried getting rtelnet and ztelnet, and both have the same problem.
Perhaps it is a problem with the remote telnetd?

Anyone had similar problems?

This sounds like a broken termcap entry to be perfectly honest.
There is a newer telnet(d) available which *should * allow OPOST
to work correctly though I hope thats not the problem you are experiancing

1. Using PERL to control telnet session?

Can I use PERL to control interactive programs such as telnet and ftp.  What I
am really looking for is a scripting capability similar to what you find in
PC communications packages like crosstalk and procomm.  Send a command and
wait until you get some output back.  Then send another command (which could
be conditional on what kind of output you got back).

If this can be done in PERL, are there any example PERL scripts that show
how to do it?
