Multilink PPP

Multilink PPP

Post by Syru » Wed, 13 Aug 1997 04:00:00

I was wondering if Linux supports multilink ppp?
What I plan to do is use the 2.0.30 kernel on a 386dx40
with 2 USR 28.8's to connect to my isp to get a total bandwidth of
approximatly 50-56KB. Will linux support this? The 386Dx40 will
masquerade my other hosts (suns, linux boxes) and will act as a router
too. Any ideas? Also, my ISP uses USR total controls with the netserver
cards for the term. server, will they support mppp?

thanks,

Hi :)

U have to use the EQL (serial line load balancing) fonctionnality when u
compile your kernel

'If you have two serial connections to some other computer (this
usually requires two modems and two telephone lines) and you use
SLIP (= the protocol for sending internet traffic over telephone
lines) or PPP (= a better SLIP) on them, you can make them behave
like one double speed connection using this driver. Naturally, this
has to be supported at the other end as well, either with a similar
EQL Linux driver or with a Livingston Portmaster 2e. Say Y if you
want this and read drivers/net/README.eql. This driver is also
available as a module ( = code which can be inserted in and removed
from the running kernel whenever you want). If you want to compile
it as a module, say M here and read Documentation/modules.txt.'

Sorry to say that Linux currently only supports multilink PPP with ISDN.
Your only option with regular modems is the kernel driver for binding
serial devices together, but that only works if the other end is also
running Linux or some versions of Livingston Portmaster.

1. Multilink PPP

I assume the answer is yes, but ...  can FreeBSD do 'multilink PPP'?
That is, using several simultaneous PPP links to simulate a larger
bandwidth channel?

If so, how does one go about setting it up?
