Talk via SLIP - HOW?

Talk via SLIP - HOW?

Post by Peter Hohs » Wed, 12 Jul 1995 04:00:00

Hi,

I am using a slip link to my ISP with a dynamic IP address and am having
trouble getting talk to work.

When I try to talk to someone on another machine, I get a message something
like:
Checking for invitation on caller's machine.

The person on the other side get's no talk request.

If someone from outside tries to talk to me, my machine beeps but I don't get a
talk request.

Any help would be apreciated :-)

Try running ytalk or ntalk instead of talk.

1. Talk/Not Work via SLIP/Works Great Locally

I have been having a problem for some time now that I can not figure out. talk
works localy, and even to people outside of our company (internet), but when I
call into the slip server here at work, talk will not work. We have had a few
other people complain about the same problem.

Does anyone know what could possibly be happening here? Works locally, but
slip server will not allow it. Gives you no errors, just the fact that it can
not connect.

Thanks in Advanced,
