Very Computer

I am still trying to straighten out using Linux as
a SLIP server.  Should diplogin link to dip-3.3.7-uri
or should it point to dip-3.3.7i?  I want to use
diplogin in the passwd file as the "shell":

Slip::501:100:Slip user:/tmp:/sbin/diplogin

Right now I have:

lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root        13 Jan 31 20:54 diplogin -> dip-3.3.7-uri*

When I try to dialin to the Linux machine with this configuration,
after the user name and password I get:

DIP: Dialup IP Protocol
Then the phone line hangs up.

Any ideas?

Try to get the latest DIP (now - dip337l-uri.tgz).
Copy your dips from /sbin to some safe place.

Recompile the new DIP and install it in /sbin like
this:

        cp dip /sbin/dip
        ln -s /sbin/dip /sbin/diplogin
        chown root.uucp /sbin/dip
        chmod u+s /sbin/dip

Behold, that unless your dip is set-uid root, you're
screwed.

Also, if you don't read README files - guess who you are.
