Network Performance

Network Performance

Hello

Is there any way to increase the networkperformance of my linux system.
I am using a 486DX2/66 with PCI, 16MB RAM and a NE2000 networkcard as
my NFS-server. but the NFS performance is really low, ftp is faster than
NFS (about 300k). With NFS I get about 200-300k, and with an DOS as
NFS-client about 110K reading, and 80K writing.
I also tried a 8bit 3com card, but there is no difference.
I also tried NeXT as a client, but it isn't faster,
Therefore I think its a server-problem.

Would it be better to use a PCI network card ?

Has anyone a solution, or do i need to change to FreeBSD, which is much faster

Thanx in advance
Christian
