Can't get client address/Connection timed out...why?

Post by Darrell Berr » Thu, 11 Apr 1996 04:00:00

I'm running Slackware 3.0 on an ALR with an SMC Ultra on eth0; I can
ping/telnet/DNS out without any problems. However, when I try to telnet
in, access news or the POP server, I *almost always* get errors saying
things like "Can't get client address/Connection timed out"...this
suggests that the packets are getting in, but that the source machine
address can't be resolved...why would this happen?

What can I do...should I rebuild inetd or something?

Or what?

Thanks (pls email replies)

Below is a slab of my syslog:

1. It takes long time untill the Windows-client gets the connection to samba.

Hi,

I setup a machine with win2K (WS1) and a server with Linux (SRV1).

When WS1 tries to connect to the mapped devices (hdd) then it takes about 10
to 30 seconds untill the Win2k machine continues with booting.

WS1 is the password server for samba. Accounts are the synchron on WS1 and
SRV1.
Untill yesterday I there was an error that SRV1 could not find WS1 because
of a wrong HOSTS-file and SRV1 tried to dial out over isdn. This problem ist
fixed now, but it takes still so long to boot the machine.

Is it possible to speed it up?

Wido
