Linux frontend to a DOS BBS

Linux frontend to a DOS BBS

Post by Mike Ren » Sat, 27 Sep 1997 04:00:00

I want to use my Linux box, with its connection to the web, as a router
for a DOS based BBS running on a second machine.  To do so, the telnetter
would need to have his traffic redirected to one of 64 serial ports.  The
selection of an available port would be done by the Linux system.
I have heard that mgetty can be configured to handle the incoming caller,
find the next available serial address, route the call to that port and
pass a message to the DOS BBS such as CONNECT 19200 which would emulate a
modem connection (all done via null-modem connections).
Does anyone know how to do this using mgetty or the what's and how's of
another package I should be using on the Linux box?  No ethernet
connection will be going between the two machines ... null modem cabling
only.
Thanks.

Hello,
I am trying to install debian potato on an elderly system, where
hda-disk is 120MByte and therefore shall host only the /boot - section,
which is mounted to a
10MByte-Partition (/hda1). The rest resides on hde, which a 30GB-HD on
an
promise-controller.

My Problem: After installing debian with some boot parameters for the
controller
and the hde-disk it boots well from the rescue-floppy, but not from hard
disk.
Lilo hangs, showing on the screen:
L BB BB BB BB
and adding a new "BB" every second.

I checked the geometry of hda against BIOS, fdisk, bootmessage and lilo,
they
are identical. I used another location on /hda (perhaps some blocks are
bad?),
but it didn't help.

Could anyone help? What does the Lilo-Message mean? How can I fix this
problem?

Thanks,
Uwe
