USR Sportster / Redhat Modem Problem

USR Sportster / Redhat Modem Problem

Post by M.E. Johston » Fri, 20 Jul 2001 11:46:15

Greetings!

I have a USR Sportster 33.6 external modem which works fine
in win98. Redhat found this modem, and dials my ISP but will
not connect, pppd just dies. As the 14.4 external I am replacing
connects fine, I thought maybe the modem string is wrong. Maybe
not. Any ideas what the problem might be?

Is it possible to take a look at the log which pppd generates when it tries to
connect to the system.  Additionally, what "init" parameters are you passing
to it to get the modem initialised ?

See ya

1. Modem problems with USR Sportster Voice 33.6 PnP and RedHat

I have just set up RedHat Linux on my PC (Standard Pentium PCI bus with
TX chipset) and I seem to be having some problems communicating with my
modem.  I run Minicom and the program starts, but when it dials, I don't
hear the modem picking up the line, and nothing happens after that.
I have /dev/modem linked to /dev/cua1  (in windows 95 my modem comes up
on port COM2)
Any suggestions on how I should check to see if I can make sure the com
port works? thanks
