tcpdump doesn't work under RH 6.1?

Post by cwri.. » Thu, 30 Mar 2000 04:00:00

Hello,

Ever since I installed RH 6.1, I've been unable to use tcpdump.  As
root, I type

   tcpdump -i eth0

The response is

   tcpdump: socket: Invalid argument

I suspect this is a kernel config problem, but I'm not in the position
ot test different kernel versions at the moment.  Anyone have any idea
why this happens?  The RedHat errata mentions nothing of this, so I
think I might have configured it out of the kernel - but I've never
had this problem before (in kernel 2.0.*), so I don't know what the
error is.

Thanks for any help.

$ grep -3 'tcpdump' /usr/src/linux/Documentation/Configure.help
CONFIG_PACKET
The Packet protocol is used by applications which communicate
directly with network devices without an intermediate network
protocol implemented in the kernel, e.g. tcpdump. If you want them
to work, choose Y. This driver is also available as a module called
af_packet.o ( = code which can be inserted in and removed from the
running kernel whenever you want). If you want to compile it as a

Hope that helps.

1. Mouse doesn't work in X on RH 6.1

Red Hat 6.1

I can't get my mouse to work with X.
I've tried a MS Mouse 2.0A and a 2.1A both on my PS/2 mouse port and COM1 as
well as a noname serial mouse on COM1. Nothing seems to work.

What bothers me is that the mouse works properly during installation. Then I
try to startx when all is said and done and the mouse fails. When I get into
X the mouse just sits in the center of the screen and doesn't respond.

I've gotten a variety of errors from the various scenarios I've tried. In
the XF86Config file, what do you put for mouse device when using a PS/2
Mouse?

Thanks in advance.
