IP: alias question and kernel 2.2 question

Post by Fabrizio Fresc » Tue, 18 May 1999 04:00:00

When I make an ip alias with a 2.2 kernel I can't see the new alias with
ifconfig.
I'm using Token Ring (I tryed it in ethernet too).
With the kernel 2.0.x when I make an alias like

#ifconfig tr0:0 xx.xx.xx.xy up
#ifconfig
tr0       Link encap:16/4 Mbps TR  HWaddr 00:20:35:55:BA:7A
          inet addr:xx.xx.xx.xx  Bcast:10.199.255.255  Mask:255.255.0.0
          UP BROADCAST RUNNING  MTU:2000  Metric:1
          RX packets:37224 errors:0 dropped:1 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:1307 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0
          Interrupt:9 Base address:0xa20

tr0:0     Link encap:16/4 Mbps TR  HWaddr 00:20:35:55:BA:7A
          inet addr:xx.xx.xx.xy  Mask:255.0.0.0
          UP RUNNING  MTU:2000  Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0
it's fine...
but with the new kernel I can't see the tr0:0, it is up but I can't see
it !!!!
Can someone help me ????
Thanx....

Did you read the linux/Documentation/Changes file and upgrade nettools
like it said to do?

Hi Fabrizio,

You might need a new version of the net-tools - get the latest from
http://www.tazenda.demon.co.uk/phil/net-tools/
