modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module ppp-compress-21

Post by Miki Barzil » Tue, 22 Oct 2002 06:42:22

Hi all.
I installed a linux machine as PPP server with 3 modems that do
authentiaction with NT machine (with PAM_SMB).
I allways see this line in the /var/log/messages:
"modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module ppp-compress-21"
and the peoples said the connection is to slow.

I add the lines below to the /etc/modules.conf :
alias ppp-compress-21 bsd_comp
alias ppp-compress-24 ppp_deflate
alias ppp-compress-26 ppp_deflate

but the problem is still there.
My mlinux machine is RH7.3 and the pppd is the one that came with
RH7.3.

Please help me to solve this issue.
Thanks, Miki

Do you have the mentioned module at all ?

When compiling a kernel you need to select this kernel-option (set as
module)

Okay, that's more than I could do - but then I don't do Windows.

"Slow" is too vague to be of any value, but it's not connected with the
message unless NT is incredibly stupid - always a possibility.

Have you tried "depmod -a?"  It's moot anyway, NT is not going to
use BSD CCP.  It doesn't implement it.  End of story.

Put

alias ppp-compress-21 off

in /etc/modules.conf to get rid of the message.

so that syslogd rereads it. */

1. modprobe: can't locate module ppp-compress-21

Hey, all,

I just installed Redhat 6.0 and when I connect to my isp using my USR
Sportster, I get the following messages in /var/adm/log/messages:

Aug  8 22:01:03 localhost modprobe: can't locate module ppp-compress-21
Aug  8 22:01:03 localhost modprobe: can't locate module ppp-compress-26
Aug  8 22:01:03 localhost modprobe: can't locate module ppp-compress-24

My net connection is slow to stalled also.

If anyone has a clue, please email me privately as I don't read these groups
often.

Thanks,

Chris Paul
