(Konqueror): smb:/<NT4 PDC> authentication problem??

Post by pabl » Thu, 04 Oct 2001 06:09:18

Dear members,

I'am trying to connect to a NT4 PDC.
I have assigned the Samba server as a domain member (workstation or server).
I CAN access the shares on the Samba server from the NT4 machine , but with
Konquerer I cannot get access to my NT Server. If I switch my NT server to
Win98 there are no problems getting access.

I use encrypted passwords and domain security level.

the [global] smb.conf section looks like this:
    workgroup = DOMAIN
    netbios name = lxdoos
    security = Domain
    encrypt passwords = yes
    smb passwd file = /etc/smbpasswd
    domain logons = yes
    password server = XT2
    os level = 2
    wins support = yes
    kernel oplocks = no

the file /etc/<DOMAIN>.LXDOOS.mac  exist.

When in Konqueror I type: smb:/XT2 it asks me for a username and password.
Nothing happens, whatever username or password I use (valid NT
useraccounts).

Any suggestions at what is wrong here or possibly needs attention??

TIA

peter blok

is it you intention to have samba as a wins server. try using smbclient

smbclient -L \\XT2 -U <ntuser>

If that works then it's konqueror thats not right.

Do you have any shares on the NT server that aren't administrative
shares?

Thanks Karl,

smbclient works fine.

What is the output? Konqueror doesn't see any administrative (hidden)
shares so if your output looks like this:

        Sharename      Type      Comment
        ---------      ----      -------
        REPL$          Disk
        IPC$           IPC       Remote IPC
        C$             Disk      Default share
        D$             Disk      Default share
        E$             Disk      Default share
        F$             Disk      Default share

then of course you couldn't see any of the shares with Konqueror.
Try creating a new share and then see if you can see it.

Or just smbmount one of the admin shares and browse to it locally from
Konqueror

file:/mnt/<mountname>
