I know this may be a FAQ, but I could not find it.
I want to ask my modem to give me a report from its registers
while it is connected via PPPD. I am using a 3ComImpact IQ ISDN modem
which gives me very little feedback like what speed it connected
at. chat -v told me nothing new.
Any suggestions? I can do this in Windoze95, but who wants to?

Your modem manual will tell you the specific
option to
enable extended result codes which will be
displayed in the
ppp.log.
I use enable throughput and set hangup "\"\" AT
OK-AT-OK AT&V1 OK"
AT&V1 tells me the high and low modem speeds, pads
found signal
quality etc.
Your modem AT options may differ.
