I am running Red Hat 8.0 on a Compaq Deskpro 450 with a Compaq NC3121 10/100
network card.
Installation went fine, and the card DHCPs just fine. Networking is great.
Turn the machine off. Turn it back on the next day and the card has no
link. It can be seen and identified in the log when I run "dmesg." But no
network.
Turn the machine off. Pull the card cage and reinstall. Reboot.
Card/network work fine.
Turn the machine off. Reboot. No link/network.

Lather, rinse, repeat.
I am going to see if I can chase down a specific driver for Linux for this
card, but in the mean time, if anyone has any ideas on what to try so I
don't have to crack the case every time I want to reboot, it'd be greatly
appreciated.
