RH7.0 -> RH7.1 upgrade kills networking

Post by helboun » Mon, 03 Sep 2001 14:28:59

I upgraded an RH70 server to RH71, and afterward I'm no longer able to
contact the gateway router.

I can ping localhost, and the server's own IP address (192.168.0.5), but I
cannot ping the router (192.168.0.1) (destination unreachable).

I notice when I boot, that the lights on the NIC and on the router port
are lit as if they can talk to ach other - but as soon as the network card
driver (tulip.o) is loaded, the lights on both go out.

netstat -ia shows the eth0 interface status as BU instead of BRU, which
indicates it's "up" but not "running"...?  what's the difference?

ifconfig shows that all transmits are errors, and also notes the errors as
"carrier:"

I tried another network card and had similar results.

Could someone suggest a troubleshooting strategy to track this down?

Thanks

You might like to go to the site: http://www.scyld.com/network and download
the latest tulip network driver.  This might solve your problem.

See ya
