DHCPD fail to assign IP correctly to win98 client

Post by HKNE » Sat, 16 Dec 2000 15:53:46

Hi guys,

I have set the following in dhcpd.conf in my linux dhcpd server.  However I
find it fails to assign ip to my win98 client correctly within the range.
Instead it still assign 192.168.1.2 to the win98 client.  I've checked the
windows directory in the win98 client and find no host or lmhost files.

subnet 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
range 192.168.1.10 192.168.1.100;

Quote:}

I have also tried to insert host paragraph into dhcpd.conf to force the ip
of the network card to 192.168.1.10.  But it fails.

Can anyone give me idea to solve this ?

Many thanks,
Fai.

I noticed that win-clients often use the last address they had (even if
it was statically assigned). The usual solution for non-deterministic
OSs like windows is: reboot, reboot, reboot, reboot ...

On the Win98 machine go to Start -> Run, type in Winipcfg, click the Release
all, close and reboot.

The win computer holds really tight to the grabbed IP address sometimes...

The command "winipcfg" is very useful for dhcp on win98.

On my laptop, I use winipcfg to confirm that the correct address is
gotten both at home and at work.  It should show your interface, along
with what ip it has.  You have the option to release the checkout, and
renew the address.  Sometims after bringing the laptop to work, I must
manually release the work ip, and renew to get my home network working
happily.

HTH.
