Dual Eth. interfaces ?

Post by u1110019 » Sat, 09 Oct 1999 04:00:00

Can anyone tell me how to configure RH6.0 to search for the 2:nd eth
interface. I can get it up running after reboot wiht the help of "modprobe
eth1" and "activate" it thrue the "linuxconf" tool. But ill rather get it
up working in the boot sequence. So can somebody tell me where to "hack".
Grateful for any help.

Try using netconf or netcfg! set the at boot option for eth1

ANSWER:
You need to create a file called ifcfg-eth1   in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/
It should be similar to:
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
(To see how this is used, read the start-up script
    /etc/rc.d/init.d/network    )
Good Luck!

1. Router dropping packets from eth interface to ppp interface

Hi,

I have the following setup:

Web server |------| Router |------| Web client
                 eth0     ppp0

The link between the web server and the router is a 10Mbps Ethernet
link, while the link between the router and the web client is a ppp
link.

Using tcpdump, I captured the web tcp packet traces at both the
router's eth0 and ppp0 interfaces.

What I found was that some of the TCP packets that arrived at eth0,
did not appear at the ppp0 interface. It seems to have been dropped.
As a result, after some time, the web server retransmitted the same
packets again, and this time, the retransmitted packets were
successfully routed from the eth0 interface to the ppp0 interface.

Anyone has any idea why the original packets were dropped somewhere
between the eth0 and ppp0 interfaces? And how can I solve for this
problem? The router machine is running Linux 2.4.5

Thanks,
Wee Lum
