Windows clients, Samba server and generic postscript printer.

Windows clients, Samba server and generic postscript printer.

Hello Everybody!
I am trying to create some kind of faxserver on my Linux box, and idea is to
create a 'virtual' postscript printer
with redirection of incoming postscript data to a fax software, with using
Ghostscript as converter PS -> G3 FAX.
Is there any way to create such a 'virtual' printer, which will be seeing
from Windows clients (95/98/NT) as
some kind of generic (or not generic) printer?
Or may be using postscript as 'common language' is a bad idea?
Or, may be,  there are other not-email-based ways to send faxes from Windows
clients?
Thanks for any help

Dmitry

Look into hylafax (free from SGI). You can set up an email to FAX
gateway taht goes via hylafax or use the supplied windows client. The
server might require extereme pushing to run on windows, so why bother :-)

1. Samba and Postscript Printer on Windows

Hi all,

I  use a Linux RedHat 6.0 machine with Samba-2.0.3

I manage to set up my shared Windows 95 Printer with Samba.
I manage to print every file on it.

But, as this printer is a postscript one, I need to set up her printing
parameters (A4,landscape, with a 6ppi police, etc...)
I didn't manage at yet. I ever get the big standard police.

I've had a look at /usr/bin/smbprint  file, but I didn't find any
command that allow me to send escape sequence to this Samba printer.

If anybody as a clue.

Thanks in advance.
