filtering proxy with anti-virus filter?

Post by Lars Grob » Sun, 15 Jun 2003 18:10:21

Hi!

We have a university network here and lots of problems with infected files
downloaded from websites. We have licenses for anti-virus software
(sophos), and now I wonder if there are any experiences in using such
filters together with a proxy (e.g. squid) to clean up the web traffic. I
don't want to filter the content by keywords, urls etc(!!), just no viruses
and trojans any more.. (currently all Microsoft-based machines are blocked
from the internet as we found no reasonable way to secure them).

Thank you, CU Lars.

dansguardian ( www.dansguardian.org ) does have an antivirus scanning plug
in written for it ( http://www.pcxperience.org/dgvirus/ ) however you would
need a virus checker which can run as a daemon otherwise it would need to be
launched for each file.

Many advanced firewalls can do it with anti-virus softwares which should run
as HTTP proxy. I am not sure whether Sophos can run a http proxy or not. But
there are some anti-virus softwares, such as
InterScan(http://www.itshield.com). ITShield Firewall
(http://www.itshield.com) can do it well with anti-virus softwares. It is a
software firewall. You can install it on PC.

1. anti virus filter for openbsd?

Hi,

I would like to install a software for filtering any packet that contain
virus definition/signature before it is being forwarded to the internal
network. Can anyone suggest me what are the software available for doing it?
I don't want just scanning the email. Of course I would also want to scan
the content of the Word document attachments, and be able to detect/clean up
the macro virus in these Word documents as well.

Thanks
Sam
