I want to download all the news from a specified group
to my homemachine and then read it there. Is that possible
and how?

Yes it is possible. I do this using a program called suck that downloads the
newsgroups of your choice. I also run INN. It receives the news from suck and
loads them on the hard drive. You then can use netscape or mosaic to read the
news and respond off-line then upload when you get back on line. Sounds like a
daunting task but it's not. Good luck...

Try using a program called "suck". It should be available at all
major linux mirrors.

Sure it's possible. There's different ways of doing it, but the easiest way
seems to be to use skim. You can FTP it from sunsite.unc.edu or one of its
mirrors in the directory /pub/Linux/system/News/readers/skim-*.tgz.
