I want to see a X-Windows session in some sort of Windows 2000 client

Post by Phi » Mon, 08 Dec 2003 07:35:15

I want to have my linux machine be a server, and I want to run some
sort of client on my Windows 2000 machine.  I have ssh, ftp, setup,
but I want to be able to start up x-windows and see it from some
client program on windows.  Can anyone point me in the right
direction?

There are a number of proprietary X servers available for Windows, such
as Exceed.

The standard open source solution, and IMHO the best solution, is VNC.

http://www.cygwin.com/

This is all the "real stuff", ported to win32. They have XFree86
http://cygwin.com/xfree/

Install that stuff for Windows, then run your xterm, do ssh -X into your
linux host :)

Winaxe, and Hummingbird, IIRC are two of the more well known and
respected names for providing windows based X windows servers.

I second the motion for Winaxe - I have
very good luck with it.

1. X-Windows session on Windows 2000?

Hello:

I have two Sunfire V100 servers, and need to access them from a  machine
running Windows 2000.  So far, I've been using telnet and Bourne shell, but
I know I can do better.
I'd like to set up a remote X-Windows/Gnome session in Windows 2000, using
it to access the two Solaris machines.  How can I achieve this?

Any help would be much appreciated ...
