tty settings with agetty

Hi,
I am new to all this networking with linux.  Hopefully Ray Ward's
post on the 905b-TX will help with that problem, but I am wondering
if the baudrates on my tty's is affecting my speed at all on telnet
connections?
I currently have changed them from 38400 to 234000 and things seem to be
the same.  What would the highest setting be for these when on a subnet that
has a t1 running at 100 mbps?  Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks in advance for any replies,

Mike

1. Direct capture of TTY port (agetty?)

I am trying to capture hourly ASCII reports from a serial printer.
Ultimately, I'd like a cron task to open the TTY port every hour, capture
the report (runs for about 2 minutes), close the session and write the
report to disk with a time/date stamp.
I briefly considered Minicom, but I don't know of any way to close the log
and terminate Minicom with cron.

Agetty looks like it could to the trick, but I'm not familiar enough with
bash to put the pieces together. For instance, how can I log the whole
session?

Does this look like it will work?

agetty ttyS0 9600 -hinL

Regards,

Dylan.
