callback

Post by dario.ronzi » Fri, 05 Nov 1999 04:00:00

hi all

I can use kppp to connect to a server RAS.
In which manner (if any) is it possible to use the call-back procedure?
I've read I must recompile the pppd to use the CBCP, but I don't know
details.

What can I do?

thanks at all.

Get the pppd source, cs.anu.edu.au in pub/software/ppp, read README.cbcp,
then compile and install as instructed in README.linux .  Then when you
use pppd for NT RAS callback be sure you add the option "receive-all" to
avoid ACCM (asyncmap) trouble on the callback.

Read "man pppd" for additional option details.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I've copied the pppd source and recompiled following the README.linux
instructions.

I've written a script like this:

Quote:>  pppd connect 'chat -v "" ATDT<phonenumber> CONNECT "" ogin: myuser word:
mypass \
> ttyS1 38400   noipdefault receive-all debug crtscts modem defaultroute

But the problem is: how can I say to the NT RAS remote server MY PHON
NUMBER?

Thank you very much.

Dario

Yea, I guess that is not mentioned anywhere in the man pages or
documentation IIRC, sorry.  It's done with the (undocumentated) pppd
option "callback <ThePhoneNumber>"

That's for most, if not all, the ppp-2.3.x series, but at one time it
was "cbcp <ThePhoneNumber>" .

1. callback-2.00 restricted modem access and callback

Dear Linuxers,

I just uploaded callback-2.00.tar.gz to the following ftp-sites:

        ftp.icce.rug.nl     -   the pub/unix directory
        sunsite.unc.edu     -   to appear in ./system/Serial
        tsx-11.mit.edu      -   to appear in ./sources/usr.bin/Communications

Previous versions of callback (1.21) and of our dial-in-monitor (dim, 1.03)
are now considered obsolete, and are no longer supported by us.

The callback package (originally developed by Karel Kubat) allows you to
implement restricted modem-access and callback to and from your Linux-box.

For some of us this results in an acceptable phone-bill: the employer pays the
phone connection, and gets (in return) you to work until late at night from
your computer at home.

Apart from this down-to-earth argument, callback also improves security:
although there is a modem, only 'trusted' people can use it, since they're
being called back.

Compared to previous versions (up to 1.21) callback now offers extra features:

    - multiple modems are supported,
    - both callback and dial-in control are supported (thus making another
program of ours, dim (1.03), obsolete),
    - almost everything is runtime configurable,
    - users may be given selected access to callback-destinations,
    - the documentation is more extensive (and hopefully: improved)

Questions/comment regarding callback 2.00 should be directed to:
