1. squid web cache: the larger the slower

Anyone experience a significant drop in squid caching as one increases
the size of the web cache?  It's amazing how a large volume of users
accessing a 500 MB cache enjoys relatively fast response,, but when
the cache is reconfigured to 2 GB the performance drops like an anvil.

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?
