Hi. I have a problem, and someone must have found the answer in the past.

I want to connect a number of windows boxes through a router and a squid
cache to the internet. I want to be able to find how long they spend on the
net. The  Windows boxes are to used by hotel guests and we need to find
some fair way  of charging them. In our internet cafe we do it by the hour,
and it seems sensible to use this criteria in the hotel as well. What
methods mught I employ to find this out? What software might come in handy?
I was thinking about just charging them for each http request they make,
but that seems a little harsh on surfers. Time spent "on" the internet or
at the computer is the only way really

thanks in advance for any suggestions

Colin

You seemed to have posted your questions in the wrong NG for setting up
the windows stuff.  This NG is for Linux networking only.  Your best bet
might be posting to comp.os.windows.nt.networking NG.

Yeah, but the windows boxes are only the clients. All the other machines,
on which the logs reside, run Linux. The question whether my squid can be
used for these purposes is directly relevant to linux networking.

Drop by a Kinko's and ask how they charge by the minute for the use of
their computers...

There's software packages available for this purpose.
