I'm searching for a traffic logger

Post by Martin Ferna » Wed, 11 Sep 2002 18:42:51

Hi NG,

I know, that I can do this on my own, but I'm currently a bit clumsy with
iptables :)
I need a script which log all the incoming and outgoing traffic on my
network interface. The important thing is, that this logger log the ports
too. So that I can see how mutch traffic I got last night on port 25 for
example. Unimportant is the html frontend for that. I can program perl and a
bit php to make my own frontend for this.. But I need a script to log this
all into a simple text-file (or maybe mysql; but not a must) ...
I hope, you can help me finding this script. I have already searched at
freshmeat, but can't find the right thing.. maybe I don't know how to search
and where to search for this ...

Greetings,
Martin

Have you explored the offerings through e.g.
http://www.google.com/search?q=traffic+logger+network+linux ?

1. 'finger' always says 'Never logger in'

Kernel 1.2.5 with shadow password suite installed.

How does one make 'finger' work properly? It's okay for logged-in users, but
when fingering a user not currently logged in it always reports that the
user has never logged in.

Thanks in advance.
