1. RH 6.1 freezes shutting down interface eth0

RH 6.1 freezes during shutdown when "shutting down interface eth0". NIC is a
3Com Etherlink XL. I noticed that the PCMCIA service was started after
interface eth0 was started, and I thought that might cause a problem (this
is a desktop system, no PCMCIA). But in etc/sysconfig/pcmcia the PCMCIA
parameter is set to "NO".

Therefore, my questions are as follows:

- what could be causing the freeze when shutting down eth0, since starting
the eth0 doesn't report any problem ?
- could the PCMCIA service starting after eth0 be causing the problem ?
- if so, why is PCMCIA starting even if PCMCIA=NO in etc/sysconfig/pcmcia ?
How can I disable the PCMCIA service ?
