I have Win98 machines on my work network that are connected via DHCP
that is issued by a Cisco ISDN router. What I want to do is access and
mount the win98 shares. How do I do this?
Dave.
Dave.
mount -t smb \\\\win98host\\share /mnt/somedir
It may ask you for a password; enter it or hit enter if there isn't
one. One final note; samba has encryption turned off by default, where
win98 will have it on (win95 won't). You'll need to change the win98
machine so that it will not use encryption. There are .reg files under
/usr/doc/samba that allow you to easily change the encryption setting.
I think getting encryption working on the samba server is much more
difficult then turning it off. I haven't tried very hard either.
Good luck. Andy

1. Hostname vs DHCP/Apache/Samba
Just got Linux server installed with DHCP internet access.
I am confused with naming convention for my network.
If somebody could help me find my way in configuring my linux server
hostname. ....
Connection:
Internet(DHCP) -----> Eth1/486Linux/Eth0 ---------> eth0/Win98
My 486Linux is configured with ip_masq which open my internet connection
for my Win98 machine. Samba is also installed.
Problems:
- I can't set a hostname because Apache can't start if it has a name. I
have to keep it has localhost.localdomain.
- Due to the above setting, the name I get at prompt is the one assigned
by my provider DHCP server which looks like HSE-ppp6752.
- Also I have error messages on my 486 coming from samba saying that the
name HSE-ppp6752 is already in used ........
- You surely agree that this name does not look very professional ....
so how can I set a meaningful hostname which will no conflict with
Apache and samba ?
Thanks !
