mount clntudp_create: RPC: Port mapper failure - RPC: Unable to receive

I'm getting this message trying to nfs mount another machine.  Both
machines are RedHat 5, kernel 2.0.33.   Until recently both machines
were able to nfs mount each other.   All of a sudden I'm getting this
message and I have no idea where to look to fix it.  Any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Peter

I am also gettting this while trying to use cfs even though the portmapper is running
and nfs is up and running.  nfs has become very unstable after I upgraded to RH5.0
from RH4.2. I also have gotten "adm: RPC: program not registered" after having
mounted one nfs partition and trying to mount another. I too am running 2.0.33. I
don't have much to add in the way of solutions but also have found that after
successive reboots nfs sometimes works and sometimes does not.

1. mount clntudp_create: RPC: Port mapper failure - RPC: Authentication error

When I try to mount something from a remote computer,
I keep getting this error from some computers, like sgi. I used to get it
from hps, but they work now. There is nothing wrong with the sgis, since
they network with other computers fine. This happens with 3 different linux
computers, using slackware from around April last year to 2.1.0.
I have posted that before and some people suggested fiddling with
the hps configuratino files. This is clearly not a solution !
