Can't access /home over NFS

Can't access /home over NFS

Post by John.Stol » Thu, 14 Feb 2002 17:53:06

I can mount server:/ OK, and can see most directories from the client, but
cannot access server:/home (read or write) by NFS.
Connecting to the server as root or a user (nor 'no_root_squash' in the
server /etc/exports) soesn't seem to make any difference.
server:/home has full read permission.

Is there something special about server:/home?

Thanks in advance

Is the /home directory actually being exported and is it listed in the
exportfs file.  Additionally, I presume that the "/" isn't being exported when
the /home is being exported as I don't think you can export a sub-directory
which is already having its parent directory exported.

See ya

1. Can't NFS Mount /home/stu on /home/stu

Suddently, the command

mount -F nfs viking:/home/stu /home/stu

(run by root) fails with

nfs mount: viking:/home/stu: Permission denied

Permission on /home/stu is 755 and on viking:/home/stu is
also 755.

statd, nfsd, lockd and mountd are running on both machines.
(We have some directories from this machine successfully
mounted on viking.)

What could be wrong?

Thanks,
Pete
