Problem with my modem

Problem with my modem

Post by howar » Sat, 23 May 1998 04:00:00

Hi,

I have SupraExpress 56K Internal modem which uses com3, irq5,
03E8-03EF for input and output, and I'm having a problem setting up
ppp. I get the following error message

tcgetattr: I/O error

Sounds like it has a problem talking to my modem. I'm using Slackware
version (Linux 2.0.30), and my pppd version is 2.2.0, and my pppsetup
version is version 1.66.

I'd greatly appreciate it if you can help me out. Thanks!

The question is, are you using isapnp to set the port and irq and
/etc/rc.d/rc.serial to tell Linux where it is when you boot?  Note
that rc.serial is not run by default in Slackware.  You have to
uncomment a line near the end of one of the other files.

If you [shift-page up] after logging in, there should be a boot
message showing the proper irq if you did it right,

1. problem seting up modem SupraExpress 56iPro: "Sorry, the modem is busy"

I have problems setting up my modem. This is a PCI Diamand
SupraExpress 56i Pro (Diamond multimedia Systems), standard on a
Compaq Presario 5722. I have installed Redhat Linux 6.1. (next to
Win98, using Lilo on MBR).

Info, from Win98 (My Computer - properties):
 - It is on Com2 (02f8): (do /dev/ttyS1, also /dev/modem by link).
 - IRQ 11(for DOS: IRQ3)

When using minicom (after minicom -s for setting up), nothing appears
on the screen when using ATZ or AT&V.

Using kppp, when selecting "querying modem" it says "Sorry, the modem
is busy"

I'm new to Linux, and any help/tip is more than welcome at this stage!

I hope I've given enough info - if not: let me know.

Regards,
Theo
