IPX over Tcp/IP and IPX diagnosis tools

Post by Werner Rudolp » Sat, 12 Jan 2008 19:02:10

Hello!

Recently, I tried to tunnel IPX packets over a SSH connection in order
to play an old DOS game over the internet. The game uses IPX for
communication.

I had no success using the 'ipxtunnel' (mentioned in the Linux IPX-HOWTO).

So, my questions are:
- Is there any alternative to 'ipxtunnel'
- Are there any IPX diagnosis tools available to check whether or not my
IPX 'connection' works at all?

You could use IPTUNNEL.  You'll need LAN Workplace for DOS if your client
is DOS or Windows 3.x.

The best bet is to set up a sniffer at both ends and see if the IPX over
IP is getting from one site to the other (and back)?

IPTUNNEL is a DOS application, right?

Which IPX-sniffer can you suggest?

Yes.  I'm pretty sure it was part of LAN Workplace for DOS.

I'd be surprised if WireShark didn't have support for showing IPX packets?
If not, there's always PacketView! ;^)

1. IPX -> IP Tunnel = IPX over Intranet

Hello,

I've got an interesting idea and was wondering if anyone has developed
IPX support into OpenBSD so that one may encapsulate it under IP over the
internet.  Currently we are using c2611 routers to tunnel it over our
existing ip infrastructure and I would like to offload this task onto my bsd
boxes and redeploy these routers for a higher purpose namely into my own
empire.

If someone has nosed around in IPX and SAP filtering within bsd or knows

Kind regards,

Micah
