resolv.conf modified behind my back

Well Netscape on my RH6 box, finally connected to my ISP through my
Win98 box running a gateway program. It worked great for a couple of
sessions, but then slowed down to an almost halt. After checking various
files I noticed that a line had been added to resolv.conf so it looked
something like this (without the comments):

192.xxx.xxx.xxx                #dotted quad of ISP
192.xxx.xxx.xxx                # alternate dotted quad of ISP
192.168.xxx.xxx                # dotted quad of Win98 box
search myRH6box                # name of my RH6 box

I erased the last line and everything worked great again.

How did this line get added to my resolv.conf file?

Hello,

Which DHCP program your win98 is running?

1. resolv.conf behind a gateway

Hi,
I don't seem to have the ability utilise my name resolution in RedHat
7.3 for things like ftp or browsing.

I _do_ have the ability to run 'dig' and get an almost instant
response. If I run ftp or a browser using ip addresses all is well.

SET UP:

RedHat 7.3 behind a gateway. I run a local network through a NAT
gateway. All other boxes on the local network have full operability
through the NAT gateway.

/etc/resolv.conf:
# my ISP network
search casco.net
nameserver  xxx.xxx.xxx.xx
nameserver  xxx.xxx.xxx.xx

Only the x's are numbers of an ip address. (It's in the other room and
I'm lazy.)

thanks in advance,

Paul
