newbie question: ppp dialup problem

Post by Simon » Thu, 04 May 2000 04:00:00

i have a problem connecting to any isp - my modem will dial out and
connect etc. but after it connects, it just sits there and does
nothing, then after a little while (30sec -> 1min) it'll disconnect
(presumably forced off because no authentication was put through) -
there must be some setting i've missed.. other help ive browsed through
says ive stuffed up the script thing that logs me on (or just not set
it up correctly) - i have set up 'prompts' that my modem is supposed to
interpret and respond with certain commands with - is this the way it
should be done, or should i be using PAP or something?
sorry this is disjointed.. i really am a beginner in the linux
department, any help appreciated
simon

Use PAP.

Go to command prompt. And ping www.hotmail.com

If you cann't ping, it means your DNS is not setup yet.

Use windows and dial to your ISP to check your DNS address. Use ipconfig/all
(for WindowsNT) or winipcfg (for Win9*) -- command prompt.
