Domainname & NIS Data Base

Domainname & NIS Data Base

Post by Alex McWhitHacke » Wed, 25 Apr 2001 01:41:54

Hello :)

I have reinstalled my system with the Mandrake 8.0 and my problem of 100004
service for NIS is now finished.
But I have another probleme already :

1/ How can I set the NIS domain whitout use the command domainname every
time I reboot and whitout adding a line in the rc.local script ? Is it
possible ?

2/ I try to make the NIS data base with the command # /usr/lib/yp/ypinit -m
    But I get :

At this point, we have to construct a list of the hosts which will run NIS
servers.  Serveur is in the list of NIS server hosts.  Please continue to
add
the names for the other hosts, one per line.  When you are done with the
list, type a <control D>.
        next host to add:  Serveur
        next host to add:
The current list of NIS servers looks like this:

Serveur

Is this correct?  [y/n: y]

You should be either able to add the "domainname <domainname>" to the rc.local
script or you can enter in the variable DOMAINNAME=<domainname> into the
/etc/sysconfig/network file.

Make sure that you have started the "ypserv" daemon.  If the "ypserv" daemon
is not running when you do a "ypinit -m" under Mandrake you will get RPC time
out errors.

This depends on your networking setup and whether or not your gateways are
correctly configured and whether you are forwarding packets between the
various interfaces.

See ya

1. NIS+ domainname vs. DNS domainname

What problems will I see if I set the NIS+ domainname differently
than the DNS domainname? eg, will gethostbyname() return results
different than expected?

I am using NIS+ only for passwd (and publickey) info. Host info
comes directly from DNS (hosts: files dns in /etc/nsswitch.conf).

thanks
