i am a new user of linux red hat distribution version 5.2. I don't know how to
install my PCMCIA ethernet adapter.
sould i use dummy , slot, or eth ?

If it is not recognized, you may need to install a newer pcmcia-cs version
(or is it pcmcia_cs).
Once it is recognized you can set it up with linuxconf (or netcfg in X)
just like any other eth.

1. Xircom PCMCIA CreditCard Ethernet Adapter IIps Install...
I recently got a Xircom PCMCIA CreditCard Ethernet Adapter IIps card for
my Compaq Contura 420c notebook.. The harddrive recently went down
completly so I decided to do a full install from scratch, using RH5.1
since Debian doesnt ship until this week (no, I can't wait ;P). Most
people I knew with PCMCIA Ethernet's said RH autoprobed it with no
problem, however I haven't had that much luck. At pricewatch.com, it
said the card was NE2000 compatable, however the card wasn't using the
default io=300 irq=5.. My question is: is there any way that I can find
out _OR_ set what io and irq the PCMCIA card uses... Its not listed in
any of the files in /proc, and I don't have a windows notebook to get
the settings off of (all my other Linux systems are dual boots so I can
find out all the settings from the System Properties). This is my first
work with PCMCIA in Linux (I had another notebook a while ago with win95
on it that got stolen). Can anyone point me in the right direction
here? I _did_ check the howto's, but that didn't seem to be much help
for me, as most of the howto had to do with installing PCMCIA after
Linux, and I _need_ to do a nfs or ftp based install here bc I lack a
cdrom :)
