setup ip address for a domain...

setup ip address for a domain...

Post by Dowson Ton » Fri, 24 Sep 1999 04:00:00

Hi,

I've got DNS setup and have no problems resolving any hosts on
the network.  However, when I ping the domain without a hostname,
I got "unknown host" error.

How can I set up a default host for the domain?  I assume there
must be an entry I miss in <domain>.rev file.

thanks,
Dowson

Dowson, I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about but I think I
have
an idea.  Your domain name itself must be defined in your zonefile..
for example, if your domain is 'foo.org':

foo.org.        A    192.168.0.1

exactly the same format as your hostnames:

ftp.foo.org.        A    192.168.0.2
news.foo.org.        A    192.168.0.3

good luck
